We’re Retiring!

stock-footage-tv-static-with-stereo-white-noiseWe’re incredibly sad to announce that, as of today, Pond Hopping Girls is going on indefinite hiatus.

We’ve been struggling for a while, now, to juggle real life, PHG and our rapidly dwindling social lives. Something had to give. Regretfully, that something is PHG. As we became more and more busy, and as the list of reviews we were late on piled up, we became more guilty and more stressed. We know that, hard as it may be, leaving PHG behind is the only way we can find that work-life balance we hear people talk about so much. And, possibly, the only way for us to retain the last vestiges of our sanity.

But all is not lost, faithful viewers. The sites (pondhoppinggirls.com and pondhoppinggirls.tumblr.com) will remain active in the hopes that, one day, someone will be willing to pay us to review TV and we can quit our day jobs. Our social media sites (Facebook, Twitter) will also stay up and they may actually see some action – we know that, retirement or not, sometimes we’re just not going to be able to restrain ourselves.

In the meantime, thank you to everyone who tuned in to our stuff. Thank you to everyone who commented, followed, liked, shared, retweeted… you name it. And thank you to our regular (and irregular) contributors, J(ohn Carey), Eoghan Dalton and Bridget O’Flynn. It’s been special, guys.

Until next time… – K

Apologies!

We're SorryApologies to any regular readers who’ve been tuning in weekly to get the latest reviews. Sometimes real life (read: working like a cart horse) gets in the way of what we actually want to be doing, which – like many of you – is watching TV. And writing about it. We’re hoping to get back up and running soon but, in the meantime, check out our Facebook page. When possible, we’re doing bite-size reviews over there. They’re thrilling! And very concise and well-worded, if we do say so ourselves. – K + B

Pond Hopping Girls Open for Submissions

This post will be Pond Hopping Girls’ 300th. As we’ve come closer to that milestone (wow, that’s a lot of words behind us), we’ve thought a lot about expanding beyond our existing schedule and bringing some diversity into the site.

To that end, if you’ve ever wanted to try your hand at writing, are an out of work journo looking for some (unpaid) work to beef up your CV, or even just really love TV, and you want to review anything that we’re not already reviewing, get in touch with us at pondhoppinggirls@gmail.com and we’ll get you started.

We are a professional site, so we will be looking for some writing samples, or at least for proof that you can use English well. This is the only requirement for becoming a Pond Hopping Girl (or honorary girl – we’re not gender biased).

Looking forward to hearing from you!

We’re Going on Hiatus

               image

You won’t be hearing a lot from Pond Hopping Girls over the next few weeks. We’re going on temporary hiatus to fully catch up on shows. You may see posts from time to time on our Facebook and Twitter pages, and you may even see some reblogs right here. But, for the foreseeable future, we’re going dark. We’re doing this because, with watching and writing, we’re not getting anywhere and we’re still three weeks behind regular viewing. Now this would be fine if we were only watching for ourselves, but we want to be able to provide the best, most up-to-date reviews for you, our readers.

Sorry for the disruption. We’ll return to regularly scheduled broadcast as soon as possible. Stay tuned!

Site Notice

It’s time to do another few abridged reviews. If we keep writing 1,000 word diatribes on each episode we’re never going to catch up, and we might a) have a meltdown or b) go clinically insane from sleep deprivation. But we can’t, because we definitely need to get back up to current episodes.

So, for the next few rounds of episodes, reviews will be presented in the following format: paragraph-long review, Quoteworthy, done. If, however, an episode is particularly amazing or momentous, it will warrant a far longer review.

Apologies for the truncated service in advance. We promise that, once we’re fully caught up, normal service will resume post-haste.

Giving Our Line-Up the Chop

You might notice a few shows missing from upcoming rounds of reviews. Aside from the absence of New Girl and Glee – on which we did not comment last week but which is directly related to their current hiatus status (with Glee returning November 8th) – Revolution has now also been dropped from our rota, as has Once Upon a Time. Because we just stopped liking them. Yes, that’s fickle. Yes, we probably should review shows we don’t like. But we decided there’s something so very torturous about forcing ourselves to do that. So we made the cut. We’ve done it before. And we just may do it again…
